Our Growing Family - Nigerian Dwarf Twins

Updated: May 1, 2022

Meet Priscilla and Petunia. They were born January 22, 2022. When my husband and I first started dating, we took our kids to the county fair. While the kids were off enjoying the scary rides, we took a stroll through the barn and found ourselves falling in love... with the goats. That was the day we vowed that we would one day name our goat Jon Claude Van Goat. Well, here we are, 3 years later with two female Nigerian Dwarf goats. We are still reserving our name for the next male goat we get.

In 2021, we purchased a home on the outskirt of town that backs up to a farm. From our patio we enjoy looking at the goats and KuneKune pigs. I would bring them fruit and vegetable trimmings often. They would hear me coming and run to the fence waiting for their treats. Our neighbor then told us that 4 of her goats were pregnant. In that moment, we did not imagine that being a goat owner was in our near future. I had just nailed raising chickens and gathering eggs.

One evening, my husband and I took a walk past the baby goat pen. We watched so much cuteness running around and playing. We later went home and had "the talk". It was always in our extended future to own goats and raise them for milk to make cheese and soaps. However, looking at the little sweethearts, it jumpstarted our desire. I called my neighbor and she was so happy that we decided to adopt the twins.

The next day, we gathered the supplied needed to build a spacious pen for the girls and I repurposed some old pallets my neighbor gifted us. I had never built anything like this before so it was a challenge but it turned out exactly how I envisioned. Rustic and useful. They love their new home.

Now, I wake up to them calling me for their morning milk feeding. Petunia is very friendly and loves to be cuddled, while Priscilla is still getting use to us. I will win her over soon. She is already getting closer to me when I sit with Petunia and she is learning to trust.

These kids have already brought nine solid days of joy to our back yard. Soon they will be permanently home on Say Grace Farms, as we are in the beginning stages of designing and building.

Imagine having your child's farm theme birthday party with Priscilla and Petunia! Can't wait for you meet them.
